Back To Basics

Back To Basics

Training to become a Certified GAPS Coach (CGC) was incredibly eye-opening. Going through the GAPS Introduction Diet stages adjusted my lifestyle to the simplicity of food and what my body actually needs to function well. I’ve loved learning about how food relates to the body and seeing the impact firsthand.

I initially thought that food would become all-consuming when I first started, but actually, the opposite has happened. Sure, there is preparation to do for culturing dairy or fermenting vegetables, but the amount of time it’s taken has been far less than I’d expected. There’s been some thinking ahead to be ready for each meal, but generally speaking, the high-quality food I’ve been eating has meant I no longer think about food as much and can get on with my day.

Sourcing the food has been the hardest part. Finding pure organic farms and produce can be a challenge. So setting up a greenhouse in the garden can only help with that! I know how incredibly satisfying it is to be able to cut a few fresh herbs from the garden to put in a meat stock, so I’m looking forward to growing vegetables in there.

The tangible results from going through each stage are real to see. Fifty days is not a long time to finally be able to wear my pre-pregnancy jeans from seven years ago! And it’s not just my hips going back to what I would class as normal. My skin has improved, and my mental strength and clarity are getting better. Going back to basics and gaining wisdom from Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride is a life lesson in how to look after the body using food purposefully.

Changing kitchenware and cleaning solutions to non-toxic has been fruitful too. The headaches I would get from cleaning the house with chemicals and shop-bought products used to put me off doing it in the first place. My lymphatic system is clearly sensitive to them, so this has made a huge impact, and the house is looking a lot cleaner more regularly. Young Living Essential Oils are the purest on the market I’ve found that work as a great addition for all kinds of purposes. The first fifty days on the GAPS Introduction Diet showed me that changing food really does have the potential to change everything. Choosing to benefit the gut will bring your food back to basics and propel you into a new way of life.
